The abuse of power entrusted to private gain is called corruption. There are various forms of corruption such as bribery - soliciting, accepting or offering a bribe, whether in the form of money or other), involving private sector people or public officials, conflicts of interest, money laundering, fraud, embezzlement, concealment, obstruction of justice and influence peddling.

In an organization, corruption undermines effectiveness and ethical reputation, making it liable to criminal prosecution as well as civil and administrative sanctions. Human rights violations can result from corruption, the erosion of political processes, environmental damage and the impoverishment of societies; they can distort wealth distribution and economic growth, and even competition.
